Origin Of The Name

The name is definitively early American. A regional euphemism that describes an unplanned birth, usually of a colt.

The founder of Woodscolt Technology, Roger Mills, had retired from a successful career in the software development industry. With 4 successful software products, and an uncompromised reputation, he looked forward to the pursuit of new interests. The love of technology and challenge eventually compelled him to form Woodscolt Technology.

Hence the name, as the company was somewhat unplanned (also, Roger was an avid reader of Nathaniel Hawthorne, who often used the term).

Roger has over 30 years experience as a software industry entrepreneur, including four sucessful software products, with world wide sales, and four sucessful software company startups.

From development work at Apple Computer in Cupertino in the "early days", co-founder of Healthcare software giant Enterprise Systems, to being recognized by INC 500 magazine and Microsoft as the founder and visionary of the "Software Taliesin", Tara Software Inc.

1980s : PegaSys and SysGen Disk/Tape SubSystem Drivers.

If you were a computer user in the 80's chances are you owned an external hard drive for your Apple or PC. Many of those systems used the "Olin-Mills" device driver set. That trademark always scrolled up the screen during the boot process. These drivers were produced and supported by Jordan Olin and Roger Mills.

1980s : UTDisk / PCTools

An early competitor to Peter Norton's tools. This product was one of the first "cottage industry" software products on the market. Reviewd in Byte, PC Magazine and the Journal Of Congress. PowerSoft aquired the rights to this application in 1984.

1990s : ESP II.

ESP II, the first "Windows" based EDI application on the market. This application was designed and developed in Windows 1.0. Used primarily in the retail sector, it was the first of its kind. It was also licensed exclusively by Wal-Mart as "Retail-Link". A Grandfather to Mercator, this product and company were acquired by TSI International in 1991.

Premier Time And Project Management Software with a worldwide user base. This application had profound impact on the software project management process. webShadow was aquired by Pacific Edge Software, Seattle, WA in 2001.

MTTimeTracker.

Current : Merlin's Tools Time And Expense Accounting for Smart Phones and the iPhone markets. The majority of the user base is international and includes Microsoft Corporation.
